Lewis Hamilton’s first Formula 1 campaign with Ferrari hasn’t been what he dreamed of so far in 2025.

The Briton sits sixth in the drivers’ championship, but is yet to reach the podium for the Scuderia. They have not had anywhere near enough pace.

Ferrari have tried a lot, including bringing new upgrades at recent races, but Charles Leclerc is the one who seems to be able to maximise their offerings.

Hamilton’s focus may already have turned to the 2026 F1 regulations, with a reset ahead of a new set of rules being advantageous, considering his poor recent form. He gets another fresh start.

Heading towards the summer break, Hamilton must answer one ‘big question’ of whether it’s actually possible for him to win at Ferrari.

Even ex-teammate Nico Rosberg has been critical of him, believing that Hamilton might be making ‘excuses’ at Ferrari for his poor performance.

Despite Hamilton’s ‘bleak reality’ at Ferrari, he continues to battle on and hasn’t given up on his hopes of securing an eighth world title.

The last time he won a crown was back in 2020, during a season filled with intense fights and domination at stages.

During the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix, following a late safety car, he had a coming together with Alex Albon’s Red Bull, which cost the Thai driver his first podium and possibly also a victory. It had also happened the year before in Brazil.

Speaking on Sky Sports F1’s Belgian Grand Prix broadcast, Martin Brundle believes that it nearly cost Albon his Formula 1 career.

“[A] bit of history between these two isn’t there? When Alex was a Red Bull driver, Lewis basically took him out didn’t he? In Austria and Brazil,” he said.

“It kind of almost cost, I think it almost cost Albon that drive in the end, for not getting the results.”

How much longer is Lewis Hamilton expected to be at Ferrari for?

Hamilton signed a two-year Ferrari deal with the option for one more at the start of 2024, giving him the chance to assess his situation at the end of 2026.

If the team are in a position to compete, he can opt to remain with them for another year, but he has a lot of work to do to get them into a winning position currently.

No one believes Ferrari will improve without a drastic change over the winter, but it appears that they are open to new ideas.

Their seven-time champion has been working overtime to help lead their development in a better direction, and it’s the minimum they must do if they are to overcome their rivals.
