NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Privateers women’s basketball team hits the road once again for their third game of the season when they take on the New Mexico Lobos on Wednesday at 12 p.m. CST at The Pit. The game will be carried on the Mountain West Network.
New Orleans (0-2) lost their first two games of the season to nationally ranked Oklahoma State and Tulsa. In their most recent contest, Lauren Banks led the Privateers in scoring with 16 points while Brialle Washington added 15 points. For Washington it was her seventh game scoring in double figures in a Privateer uniform.
New Mexico is the only team on the schedule this season the Privateers have never played before. The Privateers have played eight games against schools from the Land of Enchantment. All eight contests have taken place against New Mexico State.
The Privateers have held their opponents off the free throw line for the most part through the first two games. Their first two opponents had just 20 combined free throw attempts (Oklahoma State-12, Tulsa-8). Last season, the Privateers held six opponents to 12 or fewer free throw attempts.
Jayla Owen has provided a spark for the Privateers off the bench in each of the first two games. The North Dakota transfer has scored 17 points in the first two games of the season while averaging just over 20 minutes per contest.
As a team, the Privateers have forced 42 turnovers against their first two opponents. The 21 turnovers per game forced rank New Orleans fifth in the Southland. The Privateers also had 12 steals against Tulsa.
After this game, the Privateers will open their home schedule a week from Wednesday when they take on the Loyola Wolfpack.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT

Their most recent contest was a 71-64 win over North Carolina A&T. The Lobos were picked to finish fifth in the 12-team Mountain West Conference and Destinee Hooks was the lone New Mexico representative on the preseason all-conference team.
