A Scottish football expert has a theory as to why Celtic have not opted to make a move for Kieran McKenna.
Celtic reportedly held interest in McKenna, who remained coy when addressed about his Ipswich Town future.
Talks about the Northern Irishman potentially heading to Parkhead have quietened down in recent weeks, with Wilfried Nancy and Kjetil Knutsen the two overwhelming favourites.
Despite this, Gordon Waddell believes one thing is holding the Hoops back from going for the highly-rated Championship boss.
Poll: Who would you like to become the new Celtic manager? Kieran McKenna compensation clause may have denied Celtic move
In order to lure McKenna away from Ipswich, Celtic would have had to have paid a healthy compensation fee to Ipswich.
A payout to Brendan Rodgers on top of that would soon make the numbers add up, and Waddell thinks it may have been enough to put Celtic off.
Speaking on the BBC’s Scottish Football podcast, he said: “There’s this notion from both sets of supporters that ‘we deserve the best’ and you’re only going to get the best if you pay for the best.
“So you’re not going to get a Jurgen Klopp to come in or McKenna down at Ipswich, it’s going cost them £5m to pay his release clause and also then an extraordinary set of wages and bring his staff. They’re not going to do that, they won’t pay that money.

“So they have to think outside the box, but there’s where you find the risk for any number of reasons.
“There are a lot of questions and I’m not sure what Celtic’s answer is because there’s not an obvious choice for them this time.”
