One player in fine form through the opening four rounds is UC Capitals’ Kadi Sissoko, who has put together four double-digit scoring performances in her side’s first five matches.
Now the French import is looking forward to coming up against her childhood friend Olivia Époupa again when they meet the Sydney Flames on Saturday.
Sissoko can’t wait to take on her fellow Parisian this time in Canberra after losing to Époupa last week.
”It was a full circle moment (last week) because when I was a little girl, I looked up to her,” Sissoko told AAP.
”I wasn’t even playing basketball, I was doing ballet. One of my older sisters used to play basketball with Olivia.
”The last time I’d probably seen Olivia was as a little kid. Just for her to see me as a professional basketball player, it’s just so fun.”
The Townsville Fire will return home against the Adelaide Lightning on Saturday after playing their first five matches on the road.
Despite criss-crossing the country, Miela Sowah says the road trip had its positives.
“Each game was pretty tough, but we continued to understand each other and how we play there,” said Sowah.
“It definitely has helped, and we’re all super eager to finally be playing back at home.”
Elsewhere in Round 5, Geelong take on Southside Melbourne and the Perth Lynx will host the Bendigo Spirit on Sunday, when early MVP contenders Anneli Maley and Izzy Borlase square up.
Borlase will then face her old club Adelaide on Tuesday when they play Bendigo.
