After nearly 25 years at Nine, Clint Stanaway bows out, joined at the newsdesk by his mum and dad.

Nine News Melbourne has farewelled its hardworking sports presenter Clint Stanaway after nearly 25 years at the network.

Stanaway’s punishing workload in television and radio has been 7 days a week, including jetting to Sydney for Weekend Today and back on air on Sunday nights in Melbourne. Eventually work life balance led to a sensible decision to scale back (NB: he was not part of network redundancies).

“I always wanted to work here at Channel Nine, and it has been the greatest privilege of my life, working here for Nine. I walked into Channel Nine as an 18 year old into Bendigo Street, Richmond,” he said on Nine News.

“I hoped that one day I’d become a TV news reporter, and 25 years later, I leave really proud of what I’ve been able to achieve here in Melbourne and in Sydney as well on the Today show.

“This is absolutely the best newsroom, not just in Melbourne, but in Australia, full of great people and friends for life, now. I will always be a Nine person, always forever.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way, and thank you to you at home, those that have watched for inviting us and me into your lounge rooms as well.”

“It’s been a great privilege, a great honour. I go with a really heavy heart, but I needed to make a decision… and I’ll miss you all.”

Nine screened a lovely retrospective package by Tony Jones before Stanaway was even joined at the desk by his parents.

Weekend Today also bid 13 minutes of farewells on Sunday prompting him to declare: “I’m not dying.”

On Tuesday night, Nine will do it all again in a fond farewell to Livinia Nixon.
