World Rugby Rankings: England Joins Top 3 After All Blacks Upset

England’s 33–19 upset over New Zealand earned them a boost in the World Rugby Rankings.

The All Blacks’ six-year winning streak against England came to an end in Week 3 of the Autumn Nations Series, when England mounted a second-half comeback. 

Despite the loss, New Zealand retains its No. 2 position, though the gap between the All Blacks and top-ranked South Africa has widened by nearly a point.

England climbs into the top three this week, moving up to No. 3 and pushing Ireland down to fourth.

Meanwhile, No. 8 Fiji and No. 9 Scotland swapped places after Scotland fell 24–33 to Argentina at Murrayfield. Scotland held the lead for 63 minutes, but Argentina rallied late to seize momentum and secure the win.

Overall, this week’s results signal a tightening race among the world’s top sides, with key performances reshaping the upper tier of the rankings. Every match is growing more consequential as teams fight to close out the year on a high note.

Calculation

Men’s and Women’s World Rugby Rankings are calculated using a ‘Points Exchange’ system, where sides gain or lose points based on the match result. 

Other criteria include the relative strength of each team, the margin of victory and an allowance for home advantage.

Member Unions

All member countries have a rating, typically between 0 and 100. The top side in the world normally will have a rating above 90. Any match that is not a full international between two member countries does not count at all.

RWC Ranking

Points are doubled during the World Cup Finals to recognize the importance of this event, but all other international matches, friendly or competitive, are treated the same across the world.
