The Monument Shadows Golf Course will see some improvement in their outdoor amenities as the result of city Keno funds.

During last week’s City Council meeting, nearly $29,000 in Keno funds for the city-owned golf facility was approved, along with four other requests.

Committee Chair Darrell Bentley explained why how it came about the funding for new patio furniture gained his committee’s support. “What really cinched it, and put it over the hump, one of our committee members has two daughters on the Gering Golf (team), and she said she’s traveled to a lot of golf courses lately, and our patio is the worst of all of them,” said Bentley, “And nobody on our committee wanted to be the worst and vote against it.”

Other grants approved were nearly $13,000 for the Gering Multi-Purpose Center to help pay for new siding on the building, and just over $9,900 for the Tourism office to create a holiday lighted walkway between 10th Street and the Civic Plaza.

The Warrior Run received $3,300 to defray expenses, and $6,000 was provided to the Veterans and Military Families Emergency Relief Organization for textile supplies for their Quilts of Valor program.
