Garmin Q4 feature updates

Garmin has announced new software and feature updates for a range of its smartwatches and cycling computers.

The latest announcement details updates for devices such as Venu X1, vívoactive 6, fēnix 8, Forerunner 570, and Forerunner 970 smartwatches, as well as Edge 540, 840, 1050, and MTB cycling computers.

The free software updates are designed to help customers monitor their overall well-being and enhance their running and cycling experiences.

Smartwatch features

Health Status: Here, the updates allow users to see whether health metrics, such as heart rate, HRV, respiration, skin temperature, and Pulse Ox while sleeping, are trending away from their usual range right on the smartwatch and in the Garmin Connect app. These changes could indicate added stress to the body and may be related to physical activity or potential illness.

Cycling computer features

Smart Fuelling Alerts: Cyclists will receive prompts to hydrate and refuel in-ride. The alerts are calculated based on current fitness, course demands, and the heat and humidity of the environment.
Real-time Weather Overlays: Users can now monitor the weather and make more informed decisions in-ride with radar and wind direction overlays.
Power Guide Updates: When riding with a power meter, the system will manage efforts with recommended power targets based on real-time stamina and wind. For mountain rides or races, the power guide will also consider altitude acclimation and adjust power targets accordingly.
Gear Ratio Analysis: If paired with electronic shifting, selected Edge cycling computers will now display the time spent in each gear ratio following a ride.
GroupRide Data Comparisons: Cyclists can now compare their speed, heart rate, power, and cadence, among other metrics, with other riders in their group. This is in addition to existing GroupRide features that allow users to compete and communicate with fellow riders.

The free software updates have begun rolling out to compatible devices. Customers can update their devices by enabling automatic updates and syncing with Garmin Connect, or by using Garmin Express.

Premium feature addition
A new feature, 3D maps, has been added for users with a Garmin Connect+ plan.

3D Maps in Garmin Connect Users can now access 3D topographic maps to view activity routes, courses, and trails. Garmin states that these maps help users better understand the terrain they are covering during an activity. The maps can be viewed in logged activities and custom courses, as well as individual trails in Garmin Trails.
