MMA Fighting has David Benavidez vs. Anthony Yarde live round-by-round updates for one of the most anticipated boxing fights of the year at ANB Arena in Riyardh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday night.

David Benavidez (30-0) has yet to taste defeat in his career, recording 24 knockouts. He will defend his WBC light heavyweight title for the first time.

Anthony Yarde (27-3) has reeled off four straight wins, including a unanimous decision win over Lyndon Arthur this past April.

Yarde has a clip from “Legend” with Tom Hardy talking about wanting a shootout. He’s in a green robe with gold trim, and looks very confident. His trunks match, forest green with white trim.

Benavidez is walking out and grinning from ear to ear. He’s in a gator skin robe with Mexican flag colors, red, white, and green. His trunks are similar, though not gator skin.

Bruce Buffer does the introductions, they touch gloves, and it’s go time.

Yarde looks clearly bigger than Benavidez, a natural light heavyweight. But Benavidez is right on the pressure, moving Yarde back. And Yarde is getting cornered early, as they exchange heavy shots. Benavidez loops a right hand long and over the top, and it lands, but without much pop. He’s moving Yarde back freely. Benavidez to the body, and Yarde returns in kind. Nice right hand from Yarde up top as Benavidez went to the body. Benavidez jabs the body. Benavidez with a sharp jab as Yarde is waiting a bit. Yarde looks enormous, but Benavidez with a combo.

Yarde snapping the jab early. Benavidez looks like he’s just handing in first gear for now. But he gets Yarde to the corner and combos. Yarde counters well and moves him. Benavidez goes to the body. Benavidez still staying in first gear, methodical. Yarde moving well and popping his jab. Benavidez gets him to a corner and big combo, but Yarde blocks well and lands a right as he spins out. Benavidez gets him to the ropes again and unloads but Yarde rolling them all. He’s not scoring back, but he’s doing fine.

Yarde lands a soft right to the body early. He’s not throwing hard, and he’s landing some. Benavidez sits on a stepping right hand but Yarde rolls it. Benavidez coming in hard now and Yarde showing good defense. Benavidez gets Yarde to the corner again and digs to the body. Yarde mixing his levels well but Benavidez keeps putting him in the corner and getting busy. Yarde defending well, but this is not a winning position. Right back to the corner again and Benavidez is throwing more combinations now. Benavidez really leans into a couple shots but Yarde takes them. He’s just not winning, but he’s not getting lit up. Yet.

Benavidez back on the march, and Yarde continuing to work his jab and slip shots. He’s not punishing Benavidez at all though, and that’s an issue. Nice combination from Benavidez as he gets him to the corner. Sergio Mora in the booth is singing Yarde’s praises while he’s losing ever round. That’s a choice.

And Benavidez keeps coming in. Yarde is not getting killed, but Benavidez keeps putting him in the corner and swinging combinations. Yarde isn’t even swinging big counters. And Benavidez waves him on. He want a rock fight. And Benavidez starting to turning it up now. He’s doing some dirty boxing, with a chain of 15 uppercuts in tight.

The commentary is a trip. Praising Yarde as he keeps losing comprehensively. This round is like the others, with Benavidez moving him back and working in combinations. Yarde is avoiding getting run over, but Benavidez keeps landing at a much higher clip. Unsure how this fight changes. Might just be 12 rounds of this.

Yarde sits down on a right hand to start the sixth and that was his best punch of the fight. And it might have hurt Benavidez! He’s backing up and now he’s against the ropes! But Benavidez combos off the rope and backs Yarde up. Benavidez turns southpaw for a moment. Then back, and lands a sharp right hand. Then a left hook. Benavidez coming forward but Yarde meeting him a little more and firing. Benavidez waving him on, posturing. He wants this to get grimy. And he lands a left. Yarde fires back and Benavidez gets him to the ropes and unloads. Big breath from Yarde as the break. He’s bleeding from the nose now, and Benavidez is coming on. But Yarde lands a night right hand. This is turning into a fist fight! Benavidez putting the hammer down and Yarde is covering up now. Benavidez keeps hammering away and Yarde looks tired. He’s bleeding and swollen now around the eye. Benavidez on the attack and the ref is in close as the round ends.

What started as Yarde’s best round, ended as his worst. He looks tired and a little beat up now. And Benavidez is not going to give him air. And before the round, the referee gets a check from the doctor on Yarde’s orbital bone, which looks swollen. We get the nod and the round starts.

Benavidez right on the attack as Yarde is pouring blood now. Benavidez smells the end and he’s putting it down. Credit to Yarde though, he’s now swinging back. Bad idea, as Benavidez combos and sits Yarde down. One of those was after Yarde was already down though! And a point gets taken from Benavidez. Probably won’t matter though.

Benavidez on the hunt as we restart. Yarde staying game and Benavidez looking a little slower now. Big jab though. NASTY body shot from Benavidez. He’s working the combos and Yarde is moving for defense. Yarde blocking well but Benavidez just keeps punching. HUGE left hook gets home and Yarde is all covered up, and the referee jumps in! Benavidez gives Yarde credit for delivering a war, then gives himself a B+ for his performance, saying he wanted to deliver the KO because people were talking. Then Benavidez announces May 2, he’s moving up to cruiserweight to challenge Gilberto Ramirez for the WBA and WBO titles.
