Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia was named America’s first chief design officer by president Donald Trump, a role that will focus on increasing the user experience of the government’s websites.

In an exclusive interview with Dezeen, Gebbia said the creation of the National Design Studio, which he is running, means that “design is in the White House”.

In architecture news, Heatherwick Studio unveiled the design for a new stadium for Birmingham City Football Club in Birmingham, UK.

The 62,000-seat stadium will be surrounded by brick chimneys, informed by the city’s former brickwork. It is Heatherwick Studio’s first stadium and was created in collaboration with US studio Manica Architecture and director Steven Knight.

World's first "auto-focus glasses"Ixi has created the world’s first “auto-focus glasses”

In design news, Finnish company Ixi revealed what it claims are the world’s first “auto-focus glasses”, which feature “tunable” lenses.

The glasses change their optical power depending on where the wearer is looking and are targeted at people with presbyopia, the farsightedness that people develop with age.

Museo Casa KahloMuseo Casa Kahlo opens in Frida Kahlo’s family home

In Mexico, architect Mariana Doet Zepeda Orozco transformed Casa Roja, the former home of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo’s parents and sister, into a museum dedicated to the life and work of the artist.

Located in Mexico City, Museo Casa Kahlo features experience and exhibit design by Rockwell Group, and graphic design and creative direction by Pentagram and Ileen Gallagher.

In some of his first on-the-record comments since sexual assault allegations came to light, architect David Adjaye called the reporting on his alleged sexual misconduct “deeply unfair”.
