A new member has joined cult-favourite Swedish designer Gustaf Westman’s family of delightfully chunky objects: the ‘Puzzle Shelf’. Unveiled officially over Instagram this past weekend (though eagle-eyed followers may have already spotted cameos of the creation lurking in some of Westman’s earlier snapshots), the playful and sculptural, stackable piece marks the creative’s first foray into modular shelving.
“I usually get inspired by the most random things, and in this case, puzzles,” the designer explains on his Reels, posted in collaboration with Apple. Showcasing how he pieced the latest addition together, Westman takes us from sketches – and yes, actual puzzle pieces – to envisioning the design on his computer, and later, creating a scale model with a 3D printer. The final, glossy object – rendered in Westman’s signature candy hues – towers tall, stacked in his apartment. “I hope you like it,” he concludes.
We do. The ‘Puzzle Shelf’ feels right at home within Westman’s quirky universe. Comprising generous, chunky shelves complete with puzzle-like ends and matching connecting pieces that allow the units to be stacked, it leaves ample space between the levels for all your favourite books, candles or other Gustaf Westman objects. Solo or multi-levelled, the ‘Puzzle Shelf’ is a whimsical and eye-catching addition to any space, coming in both smaller and larger sizes. Follow Westman’s lead and mix and match different hues for a striking accent (we’re obsessed with the metallic finish combined with the blues), or go monochrome with full pink or scarlet.
For now, the ‘Puzzle Shelf’ doesn’t seem to be available for purchase just yet, but we can’t wait to get our hands on this puzzle we’ll actually finish.
