Rain across the region on Saturday meant only one match could be decided in the Millicent Naracoorte Cricket Association.

A result was achieved at Kingston but matches at Norm Facey Oval at McLaughlin Park in Millicent and at Mick and Jean Walker Oval at Mount Burr were abandoned.

Kingston1/65 defeated Furner/Beachport 9/61

The search for a breakthrough win in the 2025/26 season continued in vain for Furner/Beachport at the seaside.

The visitors won the toss and that was one of the few pieces of luck to fall their way.

With skipper and regular opener Sam Bell unavailable for this match, Cameron Slape was called on to face the new ball with Dr Sean McGrath.

The makeshift opening pair found it hard to pierce the field and were dismissed for one run apiece.

This set the pattern for the rest of the Furner/Beachport innings with two ducks and seven batsmen making single digits.

The exceptions were returning player James Watts (14) and a player using an alias (unbeaten on 22).

With Furner/Beachport fielding only 10 players, the innings was completed in the 32nd over at 9/61.

Kingston used eight bowlers with the pick being Bradley Maloney with 4/10.

In reply, the seasiders only needed just over 10 overs to reach the target.

The stand-out batsman with a game high score was Callum Paige with an unbeaten 34 while Mark Collier made 21.

The half-way mark of the home and away season occurs on Saturday in round seven with Furner/Beachport having a bye and Kingston heading to Naracoorte.

Mount Burr 10/122 drew with Naracoorte – 3/77 – match abandoned

Lady luck in the form of mid-afternoon showers “robbed” Naracoorte and “saved” Mount Burr in the match at Mick and Jean Walker Oval.

The visitors were within sight of victory when the heavens opened and the match was abandoned.

In reply to Mount Burr’s 10/122, Naracoorte had reached 3/77 in the 20th over.

This meant they had 20 overs and seven wickets in hand and were just 46 runs away from victory.

The home side were fortunate to split the premiership points after being 5/16 at one stage.

With some quality players back in the pavilion, it was left to teens Jack Muhovics (42) and Coaden Taylor (37) to save face with an 80-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

Veteran bowlers Mark Wright and Adrian Thompson made 10 apiece down the order to ensure Mount Burr reached well into the three figures after 40 overs.

Naracoorte used eight bowlers and six of them took wickets.

In reply, Naracoorte was making ground towards a win as little impact was made by the Mount Burr bowlers.

Naracoorte is home to Kingston in round seven while Mount Burr heads into Millicent to play the Black Hats.

Millicent Black Hats 9/167 drew with Rendelsham Match abandoned

The Millicent Black Hats kept their place at the head of the premiership table after their home ground match against Rendelsham was rain-affected.

Home side skipper Mitchell Nitschke won the toss and elected to bat.

It was his major contribution for the day as he was sole batsmen in the top eight not to reach double figures.

The pick was vice captain Jaxon Cushion with an unbeaten 42 and his side was 9/167 at the time of the compulsory 40 over closure.

Millicent/Naracoorte Cricket Association president Tyson Smith troubled the tail and finished with the bowling honours of 3/28.

Like at Mount Burr, the wet conditions ended any hope of a result.

Rendelsham hosts reigning premiers Lucindale on Saturday in a replay of the 2024/25 grand final.
