Geraint Thomas has been appointed director of racing at INEOS Grenadiers after his retirement in September.
Thomas, 39, left the peloton after the 2025 Tour of Britain, calling an end to a career that saw him win the Tour de France in 2018 and finish on three other Grand Tour podiums. He will now remain at Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS team in a senior management role covering “race strategy, rider recruitment, development and race readiness”.
Thomas has been at the British-based cycling team since 2010, when he joined its previous iteration, Sky Procycling. The former Tour de France winner will work alongside Sir Dave Brailsford, who stepped back from his role on Manchester United’s board in June to take up a wider director of sport role at INEOS.
“This team has been my home since day one, and stepping into this role feels like a natural next step,” Thomas said in a statement on Thursday.
“I’m passionate about helping the next generation come through, to pass on that experience and keep pushing the team forward towards our mission of winning Grand Tours again.
“The Grenadiers will continue to race with purpose, humility and a commitment to excellence — and I’m excited to help shape that future.”
Thomas spent two and a half decades riding in the World Tour, winning races such as Paris-Nice, Tour de Suisse, Criterium du Dauphine, and the Tour de Romandie. His final race finished at his home town of Cardiff, Wales on September 2, after a season where he also featured in the Tour de France, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Milano Sanremo.
