Baker McKenzie Miles Wadley Project FinanceMiles Wadley, Baker McKenzie’s partner in Melbourne and head of project finance practice in Australia

Baker McKenzie has hired Miles Wadley as a partner in Melbourne and head of its project finance practice in Australia to expand and strengthen the firm’s national energy, banking and finance capabilities.

Wadley joined the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF), where he was a partner for more than eight years.

“From renewable power plants, transmission assets, social and transport public-private partnerships, infrastructure privatisations and secondary market acquisitions, Miles [Wadley] regularly acts for sponsors, arrangers and financiers,” Anne-Marie Allgrove, the national managing partner of Baker McKenzie’s Australian offices, told Asia Business Law Journal.

She also said Wadley would provide a particular focus and expertise in infrastructure and power projects.

In his previous role at HSF, Wadley led a team that acted for portfolio debt financiers in the retirement of a five-year, USD400 million debt facility between Tilt Renewables, an Australian electricity generation company, and Palisade, a global infrastructure and real assets manager. He also headed the team representing another syndicate in the financing of Tilt Renewables’ new wind farm in New Zealand.

Wadley’s appointment follows a series of hires, including the addition of banking partners in Melbourne in July and Sydney in February, as well as an energy partner in Melbourne last October.
