Sydney captain Callum Mills’ awful run with injuries continues, with a hamstring injury now set to sideline him until after the Christmas break.

The 28-year-old reportedly suffered the injury at training in a contact drill this week, the club has confirmed.

The hamstring strain isn’t considered a long-term issue, but the complaint will interrupt the first half of his pre-season.

It has been a tough two seasons for the Swans skipper. He missed the first half of the 2025 campaign with a tear in his plantar fascia.

His 2024 campaign was derailed by a shoulder injury suffered during a Mad Monday incident with former teammate Jacob Konstanty.

He then suffered a calf injury, further impacting his season, before a hamstring issue saw him miss the 2024 grand final loss to Brisbane.

Mills, who has played 174 career games, has yet to be confirmed as Sydney’s captain for the 2026 season.

Speaking on SEN, Kane Cornes believes the mantle should pass to star midfielder Errol Gulden.

“Errol Gulden, I think he looks every bit the captain. He is so young, but he seems 25. Would be an excellent captain,” Cornes said in November.

Sydney opens the 2026 season at the SCG against Carlton in Opening Round.

It will be Charlie Curnow’s first game against his old side, though in a favourable environment for the dual Coleman Medallist.

On the flip side, Will Hayward and Ollie Florent will take on a Sydney team that forced them out to fit Curnow in.
