Hollyoaks spoilers follow, while this article contains discussion of sexual assault.

Hollyoaks recently revealed that Donny Clark is keeping a hugely upsetting secret. While his friend and co-worker Dodger Savage doesn’t know exactly what it is, he knows that Donny is hiding something and that it’s causing him to behave strangely.

Donny confessed to Dodger that he killed Griff after he was forced to watch the gangster rape his friend, but didn’t tell Dodger that he himself had been raped by Sully (who is now serving on the police force alongside them).

In scenes to air in next week’s episodes, Donny continues to worry about Dodger’s intentions, having urged him to just bottle up his trauma and focus on the job.

As Donny sees his co-worker heading into the superintendent’s office, he starts to get paranoid.

Later on, his daughter Gemma Johnson (who is secretly working with Sully and Froggy Black to ruin the villagers’ lives) settles into the Maalik house.

Misbah reminds Donny to keep his work stresses out of the family home.

Later, Dodger confronts Donny and once again calls him out for the man he’s becoming.

Donny’s guilt rises, but will Dodger learn of his secret?

Hollyoaks is working with We Are Survivors on the storyline, with the charity’s chief executive officer Duncan Craig stating: “It was important to us that we show the reality of the impact of rape, that no two people deal with the impact in the same way.

“Of course, as survivors we often share many after-effects, for want of a better word, but every individual’s experience is unique to them, as is their processing and healing.”

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
