How many more warnings must regulators make about Australia’s energy system?
The latest caution suggests that Australia’s biggest coal-fired power station – Eraring in NSW – can’t be turned off as planned in 2027. According to the Australian Market Energy Operator, there’s no adequate replacement yet for the stability – or “steady heartbeat” – such generation provides to the system.
