BROC Feeney says the chance to sample a Formula 1 car put a smile on his dial less than 24 hours on from his devastating Supercars title defeat.
Feeney was beaten to the championship by Chaz Mostert on a dramatic Sunday in Adelaide, leaving the 23-year-old to cut a dejected figure.
What followed was a drive of a 2011-spec Red Bull RB7 F1 car yesterday at The Bend.
“Dr Helmut Marko just called me before so you won’t need to put up with me next year!” Feeney joked at the Supercars Gala Awards, where he collected both the Jim Richards Award and Barry Sheene Medal.
More seriously, he described the experience as “unreal”.
“My neck is a little bit sore, but it was a lot of fun. It’s so fast,” he said.
“I’m sure for all of us it’s a dream to drive an F1 car one day and I never thought that day would come.
“So thanks to Red Bull for making that happen, that’s something I will never forget for the rest of my life.
“It’s been a pretty tough 24 hours but it certainly put a smile on my face.”

Through the disappointment, Feeney spoke with pride about the season achievements of he and his crew, and credited Mostert for emulating the Brisbane Broncos’ ability to catch fire come finals time in the 2025 NRL premiership.
“It obviously fuels me. It is tough at the end of the year going ‘there’s always next year’, to keep coming back and try to be stronger,” said the Triple Eight star.
“I felt like I made a huge jump this year and I tried to leave no stone unturned.
“The work ethic that the #88 crew puts in and the whole of Red Bull Ampol Racing is something I’m so proud to be part of.
“I know a few people have touched on it but the way our team has conducted themselves over the past 24 hours, I’m just so proud of this group of people… and I have got no doubt I will be sticking with them for the rest of my life.
“It is really hard to speak about (Sunday). I want to take the time to congratulate Chaz, there’s no doubt he is a deserving champion.
“I think everyone can agree the run that he went on in this finals series is something he should be truly proud of.
“He is a great role model for the sport, he is fantastic with the fans, with all the drivers, he has always been great to me.
“I really want to congratulate him on what is a fantastic championship, you honestly have pulled together a run like the Broncos: you’ve got to the finals and cracked onto some great form, so congratulations to you.
“I am going to try to come back stronger. We’ve had a great year but we can always try to raise the bar.”
