The Boring Company’s investment in Nashville starts this week.
Elon Musk’s tunnel-building company announced plans for a downtown-to-Nashville-airport underground loop on July 28, in partnership with the state of Tennessee. Leaders involved in the deal said “a lot of jobs” will be created because of the project.
Boring Co. CEO and President Steve Davis did not commit to a specific number of people that would be hired. He said the company will begin hiring across Middle Tennessee on July 30. He plans to send out at least 50 offers by the end of the week.
“It takes a lot of people and a big team to do this,” Davis said. “And we’re going to be soliciting a lot of feedback over the next month or two from the community on what will be the most useful places to be within Nashville.”

Elon Musk’s The Boring Company plans to build the high-speed tunnel from Nashville International Airport to downtown.
The Boring Co. is on the search for engineers, operations coordinators, electricians, miners and mechanics to join the “founding team” for its Nashville tunnel, dubbed the Music City Loop.
“The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels,” job applications state. “Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more.”
There are applications for 11 various Boring Co. roles in Nashville advertised online. Open jobs include senior tunnel engineers who will plan geotechnical investigations along the unspecified tunnel path, welders who will physically build the tunnel and ventilation engineers who will design systems for fresh air supply and exhaust removal.
All roles listed are on-site positions.
The job postings don’t include pay details. Workplace-review site Glassdoor lists ranges for The Boring Co. engineers from $79,000 to $123,000, welders from $40,000 to $53,000 and drivers starting at $39,000.
Benefits include “employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays, paid vacation, and a competitive amount of equity for all permanent employees,” applications state.
Applications are available online, but The Boring Co. also plans to host an in-person hiring event in Nashville on July 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. To receive location details, interested parties must apply online.
Prospective applicants can fill out the form with their work history, resume and what Boring Co. team they are interested in joining — engineering, operations, maintenance, production or other. Accepted applicants will be contacted with the exact location and move forward in the interview process, the applications state.
