A couple on an average salary cannot affordably buy a house within 30 kilometres of Sydney’s CBD without additional income, as the city’s median house price – tipped to hit $1.9 million next year – rapidly outpaces wage growth.
The affordable opportunities for a couple working full-time with no children on a median combined annual income of $213,000, without the bank of mum and dad or other income to relieve mortgage stress, fall to the west of a rough line running north-south through Sydney, based on data commissioned from Cotality by The Australian Financial Review.
