He might not have the international name recognition of John McGuinness, Michael Dunlop, or Peter Hickman, but this onboard footage with Swiss road racer Lukas Maurer is more than enough to make your hair (all of it, everywhere) stand on end. To make matters even better, the sound is also top-notch; you can really hear the bike screaming full-throatedly as he tears around the Macau Grand Prix’s infamous street circuit in 2025.

You could, at first, be forgiven for thinking you’re looking at a video game, except you aren’t. You’re watching an extremely talented real-life racer flow his way through, for the entirety of the 29 minutes and 59.032 seconds that it took him to complete all 12 laps of this year’s race.

Where did Maurer finish? After qualifying and starting the race in ninth place, Maurer successfully managed to climb his way forward to eventually finish in fifth place. That’s an especially impressive feat, given the narrowness of this circuit, the talent of the competitors who participate each year, and of course how difficult those two things make it to pass them.

But you don’t have to take my word for any of this, because you can just watch the video and see the absolute insanity for yourself.

Who finished ahead of Maurer? Davey Todd won the race from pole position on his BMW M 1000 RR, while Peter Hickman came second on his own BMW M 1000 RR. Emo Kostamo brought a third M 1000 RR over the line in third, while Rob Hodson brought the top-finishing non-BMW, in the form of his Honda CBR1000RR, in fourth place. Lukas Maurer’s Yamaha R1 was the top-finishing Yamaha of the race, with the sole other example (an R1M ridden by Ryan Whitehall) finishing quite far down the order in 17th.

Listen, I know that action cameras tend to have a way of compressing images so spaces look narrower than they are in real life. But still, even if you’ve heard that the Macau Grand Prix takes an extremely special kind of crazy to race in the Motorcycle Grand Prix each year, it’s absolutely nothing to seeing it up close like this.

Clap some headphones on, and enjoy the soothing sounds of peak ASMR1. And enjoy.
