A Hull KR star has been linked with an extraordinary NRL move less than two months after signing a new deal with the Super League leaders.
Hull KR celebrated their Challenge Cup win in early June and the club had more reasons to celebrate in the ensuing days as it was confirmed that off-contract playmaker Tyrone May had committed to the club.
May, who signed for the Robins ahead of the 2024 season, was coming to the end of his two-year deal but Hull KR confirmed that the 29-year-old had inked a new deal, keeping him at Craven Park until the end of the 2027 season.
It marked a major piece of retention for the Robins with May among the few senior players without a deal beyond the end of the year. It also served to end talk of a possible NRL return with the ex-Catalans man having previously stated his wishes to play alongside his brothers, both of whom now play at Wests Tigers.
A report from Down Under has now suggested that May could still be heading to Tigertown despite his recent new contract.
Tyrone May linked with Hull KR exit as brothers ‘push’ for move
The Mole of Wide World of Sports has reported that both Terrell and Taylan May are “pushing officials” to sign Tyrone with the report opening: “Don’t be surprised if three May brothers are reunited at Wests Tigers in 2026.”
Serious About Rugby League understand that there is nothing of substance to the initial report, particularly given the ink is still drying on Tyrone May’s new contract.
It’s worth noting that Willie Peters was also open about May’s desire to play with his brothers when speaking to the media in the months leading up to the new contract, explaining in March:”He wants to go and play with his brothers, he’s openly said that so that’s where his focus is, he wants to play with his brothers and he’s said that openly a number of times.”
Peters would add at the time the club were looking to keep the playmaker, something they would eventually do and May’s comments when signing his new deal explained just why he’d made that decision.
May admitted that it was a ‘tough decision’ but cited the recent Wembley win as being pivotal in re-signing.
“There was a lot of thought that went into it. But I feel like this is the place where I can thrive the most,” he admitted.
“That’s what it came down to in the end. Winning silverware helped at the weekend and made the decision to stay at Hull KR even easier.”
Tyrone and his brothers no doubt still holds ambitions to play together but the 29-year-old has made clear his intention to remain in Super League meaning Hull KR fans likely have nothing to worry about in regards their number seven’s future.
