Hollyoaks has confirmed that Rex Gallagher will return to the village in next week’s episodes – and there are number of shocks in store for him when he comes home. It isn’t long before he gets involved in one of the show’s biggest current storylines, as Ste Hay finally opens up to him.
Rex has been away from Hollyoaks for the last few weeks, leaving shortly after the shock death of his mum Grace to break the devastating news to Courtney and Curtis.
A lot has happened since we last saw Rex, including the arrival of Froggy’s secret son Sully in the village. Viewers know that Sully is bad news and has committed some horrendous crimes under the guise of his role as a police officer.
However, Rex is just shocked to find that there is a new addition to the family, and that Sully has quickly moved into the flat.

What hasn’t changed is that Rex is still pining for his ex, Ste. The pair desperately tried to make things work, despite Rex’s role in the horrific exploitation operation this year.
They were targeted with sinister threats, sent by furious Lucas, so decided they would split up – but then continued to see one another in secret.
Ste and Rex were eventually torn apart by a number of factors, then the events of the anniversary week threw a huge spanner in the works and led to Rex’s exit.

Soon after he returns, Rex goes to visit struggling Ste, hoping that they can find a way to rekindle their relationship after facing so many challenges in recent months.
Their peace talks go well, and Ste and Rex are able to build bridges, each apologising for their own wrongdoings and looking forward to a fresh start.
Rex’s return is huge for Ste and he feels safe having him back in his life. Unable to continue lying about what has been going on, Ste opens up to Rex about the abuse he has been suffering at the hands of his son.

In the coming weeks, Rex and Dillon will team up to try and make Ste see that violent Lucas needs help – but Ste doesn’t respond well to Rex’s tough love.
But how would Rex react if he were to uncover Ste and Dillon’s controversial fling?
These scenes will air on Monday, 8 December and Tuesday, 9 December.
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
