Max Verstappen has insisted there is no concern over his power units for this weekend’s title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Red Bull made a late engine change before the penultimate race in Qatar, raising suspicions over whether the Dutchman had an issue with his newest engine.
Verstappen received a new engine in São Paulo which supported his charge from a pit lane start to third, a comeback which is partly why he is still in title contention.
The four-time world champion enters the Yas Marina Circuit 12 points adrift of Lando Norris but with the experience of having won a title before in the season finale.
Ahead of the weekend, he is insistent all of his engines are in good health and downplayed all concerns surrounding the topic.
Addressing if there are any concerns over his engines, Verstappen replied in a pre-weekend press conference which featured the three title contenders: “Maybe we’ll use the fifth one or the fourth.
“They all run, so we’ll see. It doesn’t matter. They all work, so that’s the most important [thing].”
Power unit issues have been a topic this season, primarily for Mercedes. Of course, McLaren is a customer outfit of the German manufacturer.
However, both Oscar Piastri and Norris have no concerns either about their engines, with Piastri even unaware of when his gets changed.
Discussing if McLaren has any concerns over power units, Piastri said: “To be honest with you, I don’t even know which engine I’ve got in or when we change it, or whatever.
“So no, I’m not concerned.”
Norris quickly added: “Same.”
