Josh Hazlewood‘s Ashes series could be in serious jeopardy with another injury setback hampering his rehabilitation.

Cricket Australia has confirmed the fast bowler had Achilles soreness during the week after The Sydney Morning Herald revealed the news.

Hazlewood missed the first two Ashes Tests due to a hamstring injury from the final Sheffield Shield match before the series started.

“Josh Hazlewood reported achilles soreness this week during his rehabilitation from recent hamstring injury,” CA’s statement read.

“It is a low-grade issue and he is expected to recommence running and bowling next week,” CA said.

During the Perth Test there were fears Hazlewood would be ruled out for the series but coach Andrew McDonald quashed that in the aftermath of the first match.

Speaking on SEN, former Australian fast bowler Damien Fleming predicted Hazlewood wouldn’t be back until Boxing Day.

“That looks Melbourne Test match at best,” he said.

“It’s more likely Sydney and you’re coming off no cricket. I feel for him.”
