There are a few things we back harder than genuinely cool sportswear. The era of cardboard-stiff golf polos — the kind that make you look like you’re applying for a country club membership — is over. The same goes for those lifeless performance quarter-zips that give Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood energy. Now we have brands like Malbon, an L.A.-based company that’s dragged golf apparel into the present with actual taste and style.

So when the brand dropped a new collection with the Grateful Dead, we weren’t even a little surprised that it turned out cool as hell; the kind of launch you can wear from 18 holes straight into a backyard jam session with your fellow Deadheads.

Released Dec. 5, 2025, the Malbon x Grateful Dead collection kicks off a six-part series between the two. The collection includes green retro bucket hats, long sleeves embossed with Grateful Dead iconography (complete with premium chest patches), and even co-branded golf bags for fans committed to repping the band across all eighteen.

“I went to my first Dead show as a teenager. We drove up from Virginia Beach to DC, piling into my brother’s VW bus, and I experienced RFK Stadium for the first time. That show changed everything for me. I’m forever grateful for the Dead and beyond honored to work on this project,” said Stephen Malbon, Co-Founder of Malbon, in a release.

But the best part isn’t even the quality of the products, which is what Malbon’s been nailing for years. It’s the balance. The line threads that very tight needle between subtle and psychedelic. Dead collabs are everywhere — especially this year for the band’s 60th — but most fall flat: either too grungy to wear without a festival wristband, or so sanitized you can barely tell it’s Deadhead merch. This one? Malbon actually gets it right. Yes, we’re calling it a hole-in-one, and yes, we accept the consequences with that pun.

“Drop 1 features artist Daniel Herwitt, whose work lives between the everyday and the surreal. His layered cartoon expressions, obsessive shading, and focus on impermanent, discarded objects create a dense, contradictory universe that sets the tone for the ongoing series,” Malbon stated in a release.
