SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The RIT men’s basketball team fell to Skidmore, 74-68, in its Liberty League opener, Friday. The Tigers led by as many as 12 points in the first half but were unable to fend off a late Thoroughbred rally.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED


RIT jumped out to a 42-35 halftime lead behind five first-half three-pointers and a 12-2 run midway through the period.
Junior guard Zac Ditzel hit three triples in the opening half, including back-to-back threes to give the visiting Tigers a 24-18 advantage.
Josiah Turner, a graduate student forward, hit a three-pointer at 16:47 of the second half, pushing the Tigers ahead 51-41.
Skidmore responded with a 23-10 run over the final 10 minutes, fueled by Jacob Gooden’s 20 points and clutch free throws in the closing seconds.
Sophomore guard Muhsin Muhammad scored six straight points late in the second half to keep RIT within striking distance before Skidmore sealed the win at the line.

 
GAME NOTES


Ditzel led RIT with 15 points as Turner added 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
Muhammad finished with 11 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.
Junior guard Brody Brown notched nine points and a team-high three assists.
RIT shot 42.4 percent from the floor (25-for-59) and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc (8-for-18).
The Tigers held a 35-33 edge on the boards, including 13 offensive rebounds.
RIT slips to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in Liberty League play.
