The gothic vampire period drama Sinners has topped the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, securing 17 nods, followed by One Battle After Another with 14.
The Ryan Coogler film earned nominations including best picture, director, actor (Michael B. Jordan), supporting actress (Wunmi Mosaku), costume and production design.
Even still, it fell short of the 18 nods Barbie earned two years ago.

Australia’s own Jacob Elordi made the cut as best actor for his work in Frankenstein.
Both Frankenstein and Hamnet picked up 11 nominations apiece.
Adolescence cleaned up this year’s television nominees, with the cast securing nods across multiple categories.

In their 31st year, the annual awards — led by Warner Bros, soon to be acquired by Netflix — are historically known to be the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations.
Winners will be revealed at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards gala hosted by Chelsea Handler on January 4 in Santa Monica, with a live broadcast on E! and USA Network.

Critics say the big snub from this list is Cynthia Erivo, who starred as Elphaba in Wicked.
The actress was left off the list in six slots despite Wicked making it into best picture.
