North Melbourne forward Nick Larkey is set to become the Kangaroos’ captain for 2026 after being voted in by the club
Jy Simpkin was the captain for the Kangaroos in 2025 after co-captaining for two seasons before that. Simpkin explored a trade out of North Melbourne in the offseason, which resulted in him stepping aside as captain.
According to AFL Media’s Callum Twomey, Larkey, who has been the Kangaroos’ vice-captain for the past two seasons, has now been voted into the role as sole captain.
The 27-year-old has now played a total of 134 games for North Melbourne, becoming the Roos’ best forward, leading their goalkicking for five straight years. His stellar play also saw him gain an All-Australian selection in 2023.
Harry Sheezel, Luke Davies-Uniacke, Tristan Xerri, Charlie Comben and Cameron Zurhaar are expected to be featured for the rest of the official leadership team for the Kangaroos.
Larkey will be looking to lead North Melbourne to a more improved year after finishing 16th in 2025. The North Melbourne board will need to ratify any decision before an official club announcement.
