Jose Enrique made 99 appearances for Liverpool following a move from Newcastle in 2011.
The Spaniard scored two goals and provided nine assists for the Reds – also winning the League Cup in 2012 – as he left his mark on Merseyside, keeping a connection to Liverpool even after his departure in 2016.
Jose Enrique would often act as something of a cheerleader for Liverpool in the media – and a request he made on Instagram back in 2021 could now come true.
Jose Enrique dreamed of Alexander Isak at Anfield and Liverpool could now make it happen
The man from Valencia – who also made 129 appearances for Newcastle – wrote on Instagram in June 2021 that he “would love to see” Alexander Isak playing for Liverpool one day, back when the Swede was still playing for Real Sociedad.
Enrique commented: “I (would) love to see him at Anfield. Really good player and I believe he is going to become a world class player.”
Isak eventually sealed a £63m move to Newcastle in August 2022, where he has since impressively racked up a total of 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies.
Now – however – a move to Anfield looks on.
TBR Football understand Liverpool are attempting to sign Isak in a deal worth over £120m – which would be a new British transfer record – and the Sweden international is currently distancing himself from Newcastle to force a move.
A deal certainly seems possible at this moment in time, so Liverpool could soon grant Enrique his wish.
Jose Enrique doubled down on Alexander Isak and was spot on
Enrique – who admires Mohamed Salah – also said the following about Isak when speaking to the Metro back in December 2021, and was absolutely spot on with his comments about the man born in Solna.
He said: “I love Isak from Real Sociedad. I think they (Liverpool) should have signed him in the summer before he signed a new deal with Sociedad. Now it will be difficult, but if they go with the right amount of money, definitely he is a player worth signing.
“He’s 22, a big lad, quick, strong, good one-v-one, can play on the wings, as well as a number nine, he defends. Isak is definitely perfect for Liverpool’s profile of signings.”
Isak could soon follow in Enrique’s footsteps by swapping Newcastle for Liverpool, albeit in a slightly more expensive deal than the £6m sum that changed hands back in 2011.
