DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men’s basketball team visits Elon on Saturday, Dec. 13, for a 12 noon CT tip-off. The contest against the Phoenix will be available streaming on FloCollege with radio coverage available via WDKB 94-9 FM.

NIU is looking to snap a three-game losing streak as it heads to Elon this weekend. Last time out at Bradley, Dylan Ducommun (Geneva, Switzerland) led the Huskies with 17 points, Gianni Cobb (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) added 11 while Makhai Valentine (Munhall, Pa./Steel Valley) chipped in 10 points. 

Valentine has scored in double figures in four consecutive games and is averaging 13.5 points per game over that stretch while Ducommun is averaging 14.3 points per game in road games this season, shooting 40.7 percent (11-of-27) from three on the road.

Nine different Huskies have scored in double figures at least once this season, led by Valentine who has scored in double figures six times. 

The Phoenix bring a 5-4 record into Saturday’s contest after winning at Wofford, 73-52, last time out (Dec. 6). Elon is 2-2 at home this season. Three players score in double figures for Elon, led by Chandler Cuthrell at 22.9 points per game, he also leads the Phoenix with 7.9 rebounds per contest.

Elon has won each of the first two meetings in the all-time series against NIU, both of which took place in DeKalb, including a 75-48 victory last season (Nov. 20, 2024). 

NIU is making its first trip to the State of North Carolina since Jan. 21, 1989, when the Huskies won at Davidson, 89-84.

Following Saturday’s trip to Elon, the Huskies will return home for three consecutive contests to close the calendar year. NIU will host East-West University on Tuesday, Dec. 16, before opening league play at home against Central Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 20, and Buffalo on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
