Hulubeje, a fast-growing digital commerce and payments platform, has processed more than five billion transactions in less than a year, the company said. The milestone covers payments made by Hulubeje’s clients to their end users.
Developed by Red Cloud ICT Solutions, a 22-year-old Ethiopian technology firm, Hulubeje integrates e-commerce services with a robust payment gateway. Red Cloud employs 350 permanent staff and serves over 6,800 clients across sectors including hospitality, food and beverage, merchandising, manufacturing, FMCG and Healthcare. The company also operates POS counters.
Hulubeje’s platform combines physical and digital commerce, enabling users to book cinema and tickets, reserve hotels, pay utility bills, and scan QR codes for receipts and parking. Both domestic and international payments contributed to the milestone, reflecting broad adoption across urban centres.
Executives credited the achievement to a mix of strong client uptake, a dedicated workforce, and strategic partnerships. The platform collaborates with fintech and banking institutions including telebirr, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Bank of Abyssinia, M-Pesa and EthSwitch, providing interoperability across wallets and traditional banking services.
Hulubeje’s performance mirrors a broader trend toward digital financial inclusion, driven by expanding smartphone penetration, mobile network coverage, and investment in payment infrastructure such as EthSwitch, the national payment switch connecting banks, wallets, and merchants nationwide.
