Milwaukee – The Le Moyne women’s basketball team traveled to Marquette for a non-conference matchup and came away with an 89-42 loss to the Golden Eagles.

Through nine games, the Dolphins sit with a 1-8 record.

Senior guard Sierra Linnin, junior forward Ashley Buragas, and sophomore guard Eli Clark all tied to lead Le Moyne with eight points. Linnin and Clark each shot 2-for-4 from behind the arc with the former adding two free throws, one rebound and one steal while the latter registered one more bucket, one board and two assists.

Buragas went 3-8 from the field with three rebounds, one assist and one block.

Freshmen forward Ava Johnson and guard Kayden Clark sat just behind with six points each for the Dolphins, with Johnson tallying one rebound, one assist and a team-high two blocks and Kayden Clark recording a team-high four rebounds, one assist and one block.

Junior forward Sydney Postell tied Eli Clark for the team lead in assists with two, while redshirt sophomore guard Amya McLeod led with two steals in the loss.

Halle Vice put up a game-high 23 points while Skylar Forbes (16), Jordan Meulemans (15) and Lee Volker (14) all finished in the double-digits for Marquette, as well. Vice also added a game-best 10 rebounds, while Volker registered 11 assists.

The Golden Eagles put together a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter before Buragas recorded the Dolphins’ first six points on a pair of free throws, a layup and a jumper.

Two layups from Kayden Clark and a jumper from Eli Clark rounded out Le Moyne’s scoring in the first as Marquette took a 24-12 lead into the first break.

The Dolphins allowed the first nine points of the second frame through nearly four minutes before a 3 from Linnin got Le Moyne back on the board. Another 3 from Linnin and one more from junior guard Jessica Wangolo brought the team back within 20 of Marquette before the hosts went on a 9-2 run to close out the first half leading, 49-23.

The teams traded a pair of 3s to open the third quarter before Marquette went on another run, this time 7-0, before Buragas tipped in a bucket and Kayden Clark made a layup in the paint.

Johnson added the first two made 3-pointers of her career on back-to-back possessions in the middle of the frame before the quarter closed on back-to-back 3s from Eli Clark and Meulemans.

The Golden Eagles opened the final quarter of play with a 68-40 lead and only allowed the first two points on a pair of made shots from the line by Linnin before holding the Dolphins scoreless the rest of the game.

Marquette added 21 points in the final seven-plus minutes of action to close out the game with an 89-42 victory.

Le Moyne will finish out its two-game road trip in Bowling Green, Ohio as it takes on the Falcons. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
