After more than two decades away, AFL Origin is making its triumphant return to Perth. On Saturday, February 14th, 2026, Optus Stadium will host the iconic State versus State showdown as Western Australia takes on Victoria in the first AFL Origin match in over 26 years. With star players now confirmed and striking new jumpers revealed, this is shaping up to be one of the hottest sporting events in Perth’s calendar.

The match will see WA’s finest go head-to-head with Victoria’s best in a battle that reignites one of Australian football’s most storied rivalries. Supported by the State Government through Tourism WA, the event promises to draw thousands of interstate visitors to Perth and inject millions into the local economy whilst showcasing the city on a national stage.

Team WA will run out in a locally designed and manufactured jumper that proudly showcases Western Australia’s heritage. Created by Burley Sekem Bassendean, the jumper features the iconic black swan set against gold and black, paying homage to past AFL Origin designs while celebrating the state’s natural emblem.

Victoria’s jumper, designed by New Balance, honours the state’s legacy with the renowned Big V displayed on a classic blue and white palette. The two designs represent not just sporting rivalry but state pride, with each jumper carrying the weight of history and expectation.

Star-studded lineups announced

The player announcements have football fans across both states chomping at the bit to get tickets. Representing Western Australia are Kysaiah Pickett, Luke Jackson, and Liam Baker, three players who’ve made their mark at the highest level. Victoria counters with an equally impressive lineup featuring Max Gawn, Toby Greene, and Tom Stewart.

These six players join previously announced teammates in what’s building into a genuine clash of titans. With more player announcements expected in the coming months, both sides are assembling squads capable of delivering the highly entertaining footy that made Origin such a drawcard in previous decades.

Part of Perth’s action-packed summer

The AFL Origin match is part of an impressive lineup of major sporting events coming to Perth. The city will host the United Cup, HoopsFest, and the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, creating a summer of sport that Tourism Minister Reece Whitby says will welcome thousands of out-of-state visitors and provide a significant boost to local businesses.

“WA is not only making history by hosting this fixture, but it puts our state at the forefront of the nation’s mind,” Whitby said. The event represents more than just football — it’s part of the State Government’s strategy to diversify the economy and showcase Perth’s world-class sporting infrastructure.

How to secure your tickets

Tickets for the match are now available through afl.com.au/origin. Given the 26-year gap since the last Origin match and the calibre of players already announced, strong demand is expected.

Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti added, “It will be the iconic Swan taking on the Big V when WA’s best line up against Victoria in next year’s AFL Origin clash. These events pump millions into the economy, create local jobs, and bring communities together, which is why we push so hard to secure them for WA.”
