CASTLEFORD AND BUHL, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The Carey Panthers and Wendell Trojans girls basketball teams each added a win to their records as the Panthers won a conference game over Castleford, while Wendell took down Buhl.
Carey held Castleford scoreless through the game’s first 10 minutes and in that time built up a 10 point lead of their own before heading to the halftime break with a huge 20-4 lead.
Castleford’s offense really started coming into its own the rest of the way as the team finished with 29 points, but the slow first half proved too much to overcome in a 46-29 defeat.
For Carey, Ali and Andie Simpson were key to driving the Panther offense and the rest of the squad consistently hit shots when they needed too as they move to 5-1 on the year.
Wendell and Buhl’s game was a solid back and forth affair until about midway through the second quarter.
The game was tied at 14 but from there, Wendell went on a 12-3 run to close the half and entered the break with a nine-point lead.
That nine-point lead would hold for the majority of the third quarter and anytime the Indians would cut into the defecit the Trojans always seemed to have an answer, whether it was a defensive stop, or hitting the next shot.
This theme continued until the final horn when Wendell wrapped up a 38-28 win.
