Could the NFL’s best regular-season matchup of the year be on the way Thursday night?

Week 16 will begin with the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Los Angeles Rams, with the two teams not only sitting atop the NFC West with identical 11–3 records, but also cementing their status as threats to make a run to Super Bowl LX. The last time the Rams met the Seahawks, they held on for a 21–19 victory in November. This matchup, however, is set to carry far more significant consequences.

The winner will have the upper hand to win the NFC West and potentially the NFC’s No. 1 seed, with Seattle especially needing a victory to tie the season series and improve its tiebreaker outlook. A potential top wild-card spot won’t be a bad consolation prize for the loser on “Thursday Night Football,” but the 10–4 San Francisco 49ers are also looming in both races.

No matter the result, the Rams and Seahawks represent two of the most dynamic and talented teams in the league this season. Defensively, Seattle boasts one of the NFL’s most disruptive units, paired with an elite Sam Darnold–Jaxon Smith-Njigba connection on offense. As for the Rams, Matthew Stafford may be on his way to his first MVP award, with L.A. ranking second in the NFL at 363.6 yards per game.

With playoff seeding on the line, two of the NFL’s most balanced squads meet Thursday night. Which team will position itself atop the NFC West heading into Week 17?
