Acclaimed cinematographer Adriano Goldman is no stranger to big television projects, having worked on Andor and The Crown, for which he won the Emmy award. He is currently the lead Director of Photography on the Harry Potter television series, and will be working on four of the eight episodes, which include the first and last episodes. In an interview with Forbes, he talks about his work on the series

Adriano Goldman talked to Forbes about being the lead director of photography on HBO’s Harry Potter Here he also confirmed that Season 1 will have 8 episodes: “I’m not the only director of photography. There are eight episodes and three directors of photography, plus the second unit. But I act as the lead photographer, the main director of photography, because I shoot the first two episodes and the last one. In total, four of the eight episodes.
As we know, the majority of the Harry Potter cast are children who cannot work long hours. Goldman recognizes it as one of the key challenges of this particular project: “Time is also crucial, especially when working with children, whose time on set is quite limited. Time management is one of the most important aspects of my job. I know from the start that I won’t have all the time I’d like, and I accept that when embarking on a project of this size.
Therefore, the pre-production phase is essential: I need to ensure that, when I arrive on set, there is a prepared infrastructure that allows me to work quickly and efficiently, but also with space for artistic elaboration.“

Furthermore, Goldman talked about working on Harry Potter with director and co-showrunner Mark Mylod: “I have a special relationship with color. I think this series needs to be more vibrant from an overall visual perspective. I like the idea that my work inspired Mark Mylod—both in “The Crown” and in “Andor,” which, despite being science fiction, has a more realistic visual approach.
This way of working involves not only a specific look, but also a demeanor on set and efficient time management. That’s how they see me professionally. It’s not just about aesthetics, but about ensuring everything works and that the gears keep turning.“
Harry Potter series will film until May 2026 and is eyeing a 2027 release. Season 2 will begin filming back-to-back after Season 1 after a short break.
