L.A. brought on Matt Harper to assist Kotwica, someone Kotwica has known for a long time going back to their days coaching in the NFC East with the Commanders and Eagles, respectively.
“He’s jumped right in and tackled the tasks that we’ve asked him to, so that with the meetings and the walk throughs and the practice,” Kotwica said. “So that extra time allows us a little bit of space, but we’ll be ready to rock and roll Monday night.”
Kotwica takes over a special teams unit that found stability for a stretch via personnel changes until the mistakes that contributed to last week’s Thursday Night Football loss to the Seahawks in Seattle.
In terms of what needs to change for Los Angeles’ special teams, Kotwica said that “behind the scenes, there’s always corrections that are made.” But players recognize the required sense of urgency to make them at this stage of the season.
“We’ve had a couple plays that have cost us during the course of the year,” Kotwica said. “But I love the way that our guys are going about their business. They understand the urgency. We’re part of a championship football team. But we’re just ready to contribute to holding up that Lombardi (trophy) early next year.”
