A model has revealed she secretly tied-the-knot with her former AFL star fiance – seven years after the couple got engaged.

Megan Gale, 50, married Shaun Hampson, 37, in a super private ceremony surrounded by just their mothers and children in Fiji last December.

After 12 months of keeping it quiet, Gale finally made their marital status public information in a bombshell interview with Marie Claire magazine.

“We never wanted a big, public, showy wedding,” she told the publication.

“When so much of my life has been public, it was really nice to not have this shared or over-shared,’ she added.

“We wanted it just for us and the family.”

The Australian supermodel, who rose to fame at the tender age of 18 when she won a Perth modelling competition, also shared details on how the couple managed to keep it quiet for so long.

“We told them at dinner the night before,” Gale explained.

“There was a lot of, ‘What? No way!’, But it made it more special.”

Gale, who started dating Hampson in 2010, has previously discussed how planning a wedding just wasn’t high on the priorities list for the couple, who have two children together, son River, 11, and daughter Rosie, eight.

“The whole lot seems like a lot of work for me. I’m just exhausted thinking about it,” she told the Stellar podcast, Something To Talk About, last year.

The pair got engaged in 2017, with Gale explaining it was “more important for me to start a family” than become engaged.

“But then there was a little thing where I was like … everyone else is getting [engaged]. Is he actually going to ask?

“I thought, he hasn’t even asked and I was getting a little bit funny about that, which is really silly now to think about.

“I think it was more because we had River, and we had Rosie … and it felt like they were the Hampsons and I was Miss Gale over here. I kind of wanted to unite more.

“Then he asked, and I was overjoyed. Then we thought, the kids are here. Let’s wait til they’re old enough to be involved [in a wedding] and remember it.”

Gale told Marie Claire the couple quietly wed on Vomo island in Fiji, stating: “The only reason why we’re sharing it is because it has been a year. We’ve kept this private because that’s who we are as a couple. Extremely low-key. We never wanted a big public, showy wedding. All we wanted was a beautiful, quiet, simple intimate ceremony somewhere that we loved.”

Fans have since shared messages of congratulations, describing it as “beautiful news”.

“The biggest congratulations,” wrote one.

“Happy one year anniversary,” said another.
