The Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be busy for the rest of the offseason to bolster the roster. Dave Dombrowski is trying to find the right mix between bringing back key players and providing a shakeup.

With a higher payroll, the organization won’t be able to upgrade every area and will have to rely on some internal improvements. The Phillies are hoping they can get a better performance from Alec Bohm, a player who has been rumored to be on the trade block this winter.

“The Phillies had Kyle Schwarber protect Bryce Harper in the lineup early last season,” Todd Zolecki wrote for MLB.com. “At the end, Harper protected Schwarber. It means one of them will need somebody else to protect them in 2026. Bohm could be the guy. The Phillies think he is going to be much better next season. He batted .287 with 11 home runs, 59 RBIs and a .741 OPS in 2025. It was his lowest slugging percentage (.409) and OPS since 2021. But he also missed time because of a fractured left rib and inflammation in his left shoulder. The Phillies think a healthy Bohm will put up numbers like he did in 2024: .280 with 15 home runs, 97 RBIs, a .779 OPS and a 117 OPS+.”

Bohm will need to improve significantly as he was more of a liability than an asset last year. Manager Rob Thomson faces a lot of pressure going into next season, so he won’t be able to give Bohm as long of a leash to settle into a rhythm.

The veteran infielder will have some extra pressure on him as it will be his contract year. A bad season would all but confirm the end his tenure with the organization.
