The countdown to midnight has begun as the New Year draws closer and the curtain comes down on 2025.

Millions of Australians around the country are preparing to watch the annual fireworks display this New Year’s Eve and authorities are urging everyone to plan ahead of time.

Sydney

At 9pm, the first round of fireworks will begin.

Spots like Dawes Point and Darling Harbour offer space for kids to play, food trucks and entertainment.

At 11pm, a Moment of Unity will take place with a one-minute silence to reflect on the tragic Bondi terror attack.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge will glow white as a symbol of peace and unity.

From 12am, 2026 will be rung in with the world’s best fireworks show, featuring pyrotechnics launched from the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House and other landmarks. 

Vantage points on the western side of the city include Barangaroo and Observatory Hill.

Mrs Macquarie’s Point, Bradfield Park & Mary Booth Reserve, Bennelong Lawn and Tarpeian Lawn offer great views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.

Brisbane

At 7.45pm, Brisbane’s first round of fireworks will light up the city’s skyline.

The Landing is the best viewing location at Queen’s Wharf, however capacity is limited and only available on a first-in basis.

Howard Smith Wharves, the Riverside Centre and South Bank are also popular spots to view the fireworks.

Brisbane will also display a fireworks show at midnight to herald in the new year.

Melbourne

Melbourne’s sky will also light up twice with family-friendly fireworks from 9.30pm.

The midnight rooftop fireworks and a laser display will be accompanied by a soundtrack produced in partnership with Nova 100’s Jase and Lauren.

Vantage points include the Docklands, Kings Domain, Flagstaff Gardens and the Treasury Gardens.

No bookings are required.

Adelaide

Adelaide will host fireworks from 9pm at the Riverbank Precinct, with the New Year’s Eve fireworks commencing at midnight.

Entertainment will include a main stage with live music all night, a family friendly area with lots of activities for the young ones, a circus stage and roving performances.

Capacity will be limited to 25,000 people at any one time.

Perth

Perth will show two spectacular firework displays at 8.30pm and midnight, lighting up the city skyline for an unforgettable start to the new year.

The City of Perth has recommended viewing the fireworks from Elizabeth Quay, Barrack Square, Supreme Court Gardens and the foreshore near Birdiya Drive.

Viewing may be restricted from areas such as South Perth or Kings Park.

Audiences outside Elizabeth Quay, Barrack Square, Supreme Court Gardens and the foreshore will not be able to hear the narrated soundtrack or access event facilities.
