Former England and Leicester Tigers tighthead prop Dan Cole has ended his 18-year association with the PREM Rugby outfit due to personal reasons.

Cole, who is 38 years of age, started his journey at the Tigers as a player in 2007 and retired at the end of the 2024/25 season before taking up the position of recruitment and retention manager at the club.

Shone for club and country as a player

Apart from making 340 appearances for Leicester, the legendary front-rower also played in 118 internationals for England between 2010 and 2024 and represented his country in the 2019 Rugby World Cup final which they lost to the Springboks.

He also played in three Tests for the British & Irish Lions on their tours to Australia in 2013 and was in the famous touring team’s squad on their visit to New Zealand in 2017, although he did not play in any Lions Tests that year.

During his 18 years at the Tigers, Leicester-born Cole won four Premiership titles and three Six Nations championships with England.

He revealed that his decision to step down from his position at the club was not an easy one.

“I am leaving Tigers with a heavy heart. This club means everything to me and it has been an honour to represent the badge,” said Cole.

‘I cannot give the role the attention it deserves’

“Unfortunately, a change in personal circumstances dictates that I cannot give the role the attention it deserves moving forward so I am stepping away.

“I have no doubt that the club is on strong footing for 2026 and beyond and wish (head coach) Geoff (Parling), the players and everyone at Mattioli Woods Welford Road the best of luck.”

Leicester Tigers’ chief executive Andrea Pinchen said: “Dan leaves the club, but his legacy as a player, employee and most importantly as a person will remain.

“He epitomises the toughness, passion and love for the badge that this club is all about.

“He will be missed.”
