The Blue Jays may have a hidden gem with Nic Enright.
The Toronto Blue Jays can’t stop making moves. This should be a sight for the sore eyes of Blue Jays’ fans. While the future of Bo Bichette looms, Toronto has focused on pitching in the first half of the MLB offseason. Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, Tyler Rogers, Chase Lee, and Spencer Miles have been the primary pitching additions. On the depth side of things, Celwin Hurkmans, Elian Guzman, and Nic Enright have also been signed.
Enright is an interesting pick-up for the Blue Jays. He could be an “outstanding” addition as the team navigates swirling trade and free agency rumblings. Enright will be one pitcher fans will need to keep an eye on.
Toronto Blue Jays Sign Nic Enright
According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, the Blue Jays have signed Enright to a two-year contract.
“Source: The Blue Jays have agreed to a 2-year minor league deal with RH Nic Enright,” Gonzalez revealed in an X post on December 31st, 2025. “Enright, 28, beat Hodgkin lymphoma and had a really nice year with the Guardians in 2025, with a 2.03 ERA in 31 innings. He’ll spend 2026 rehabbing Tommy John and look to bounce back in 2027.”
Enright was selected in the 20th round of the 2019 draft by the Cleveland Guardians. He had a brief stint with the Miami Marlins following a waiver claim.
At the time of this writing, Enright’s signing has not been made official on the Blue Jays website. However, his last deal had him earn $760,000 in 2025, according to Spotrac.
What Do the Blue Jays Have in Nic Enright?
Enright made his MLB debut in 2025. As a relief pitcher, he played in 27 games. He recorded 30 strikeouts, three holds, and one save in 31 innings while posting a 2.03 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. Additionally, he only surrendered three home runs.
According to Savant data, the 6-foot-3, 205 lbs pitcher threw three pitches in 2025. His four-seam fastball averaged 93.2 MPH, his slider averaged 85 MPH, and his curveball averaged 82.6 MPH. The fastball is his primary pitch, which accounted for 66 percent of his 532 pitches in 2025.
Of his pitches, his slider generates the most whiffs. With a 42.9 WHIFF %, his slider generates the same percentage of whiffs as Cease. The only caveat is Enright’s small sample size.
Nic Enright & His ‘Sneaky’ Pitch
Next Year in Cleveland published a scouting report earlier in 2025. It should give Blue Jays fans a sense of excitement for this new pitcher.
“Tall and lanky reliever. Looks the part,” Justin Lada wrote on March 31, 2025. “Looks like he throws harder than he does, gets results like he does throw harder. Sneaky fastball. Good control. Solid secondaries. Good character and perseverance.”
He continues by explaining what makes Enright an effective pitcher.
“Good extension and throws from a tall, over-the-top arm slot,” Lada wrote. “(Arm) extension gives him good carry and life on the fastball, so even at 91-94, his fastball punches above its weight. He used to pair it with a big over the top curveball but now employs a slider with good spin and tilt.”
“Has the curveball and does throw a changeup, giving him a full arsenal as a middle reliever. He commands everything well.”
Savant reveals that Enright throws from a 54-degree angle, about 10 degrees lower than Trey Yesavage.
Enright ‘Outstanding’ In First Career Save
After getting his first taste of the MLB, Enright earned his first career save on August 4th, 2025. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt spoke about the “outstanding” reliever.
“What a cool night. His first career save. He was outstanding,” Vogt said via MLB.com. “Nic is such a great kid. What he has been through in his personal life, nothing is going to rattle him either. He has been so great for us, consistent. I’m just really happy for him and his family.”
Blue Jays Trade Rumblings
The Blue Jays haven’t been directly tied to someone in trade rumors for some time. However, what happens on the trade market will directly affect them.
While they haven’t been connected to Cody Bellinger in some time, some good news has come for teams that aren’t the New York Yankees. Jeff Passan took to Threads to share about how the Yankees aren’t budging on their price. Other insiders believe that the two parties are made for each other, but we wait to see what happens.
Ketel Marte is an infielder whose time on the trade block is rapidly closing. According to the Arizona Diamondbacks GM, they will be wrapping up discussions around him in short order.
Once a decision is made on Marte, Brendan Donovan will be the next domino. The Boston Red Sox are reported to be suitors for Marte and Donovan in addition to free agents Alex Bregman and Bichette. If Boston can acquire Marte or Donovan, there will be less competition for the Blue Jays to reunite with Bichette.
Another St. Louis Cardinals player who is drawing interest is Nolan Arenado. According to an MLB.com report, the Los Angeles Angels have interest in trading for the third baseman.
There hasn’t been much movement regarding Kyle Tucker or Bichette, but that could change in an instant. Heading into the new year, the Blue Jays are positioned to make at least one more big splash.
