College men’s basketball: Indians win at LC

SALISBURY — Livingstone’s men’s basketball team stayed even with Catawba for the first eight minutes, but the deep Indians eventually pulled away on Monday at New Trent Gym.

Catawba led 37-22 at the break and posted an 87-63 victory over the Blue Bears.

Jordan Simpson had a 3-for-10 shooting night on 3-pointers, but he made one that gave broke a 10-all tie, gave Catawba a 13-10 lead and put the Indians (9-3) ahead to stay in a battle of neighbors that was staged in front of 252 fans.

Simpson, the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for his work against Carson-Newman, scored 20. James Banks had 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Solomon Tucker and Jashaun Hawkins added 10 points each.

Livingstone (4-9) got 12 points from Kenneth Tyree and 10 from James Nipper.

Catawba wasn’t great — making 17 turnovers — but the Indians won big on the boards and shot 46.2 percent.

Livingstone shot 35.4 percent.
