SAN ANTONIO — With candles in hand and wiping tears from their eyes, it was an emotional ceremony in memory of Camila Olmos.

“The unconditional love she had for me – and I had for her. It’s nothing but love. But I know that she’s in heaven,” said Alfonso Mendoza, Camila’s father.

The 19-year-old went missing on Christmas Eve. Her body was found nearly a week later. Investigators say she died by suicide.

A memorial and celebration of life was held on Saturday at Wildhorse Sports Park. Hundreds gathered for a balloon release and to share stories about Camila, bringing comfort to one another.

“I’m hurting. I miss her. But we’ll unite,” explained Alfonso. “She’s not physically here, but she’ll be in my heart and thoughts forever.”

Alfonso was grateful for those who showed up and prayed that Camila’s story would help others face a tough time or a crisis.

“She brought a lot of unity, and I hope it helps a lot of people to talk and express what they feel. You know, there’s always help,” said Alfonso.

“My child brought unity, love, and peace. For a whole lot – not just here at local – it’s global, nationwide,” said Alfonso. “I want to thank everybody, the media, the community, law enforcement, detectives, investigators – for helping out.”

Alfonso emphasized the importance of speaking out and reaching out for help, as his child’s life and legacy have inspired many.
