The Hobart Hurricanes have locked up a top three spot and are in the box seat to defend their Big Bash title after a massive 37-run win over the Adelaide Strikers.
Despite a solid 91 not out by Strikers’ Liam Scott, his highest score in the BBL, Adelaide finished at 9-141 chasing the Hurricanes total of 179 for victory.
But the damage was done early in Adelaide’s innings with Hurricane’s quicks Riley Meredith (2-16) and skipper Nathan Ellis (2-7) picking up two wickets each to have the Strikers 4-8 off three overs.

Meredith took a wicket first ball of his over with Strikers skipper Matt Short spooning one to Nikhil Chaudhary at cover before clean bowling Mackenzie Harvey just two balls later.
It went from bad to worse for the Strikers with Ellis removing power hitting Chris Lynn before removing Jason Sangha.
Scott, combined with Harry Manenti looked to consolidate and rebuild an innings as they tried to chase down the Hurricanes total which on the Ninja Stadium wicket looked to be about 20 short.
But again wickets fell in partnerships with the Hurricanes spinners, Rishad Hossain (3-26) and Rehan Ahmed (1-31) to have the Strikers crawling at 8-93.
“A clinical win by the Canes,” Mark Waugh said.
The loss creates headaches for Tim Paine’s Strikers who sit fifth and a game outside of the four, just one win behind second spot but they do play the Perth Scorchers (second), Melbourne Stars (third) and Melbourne Renegades (fourth) to finish the season.
While for the Hurricanes, they now jump to two games clear of second spot and the logjam below them.
The Hurricanes head to Sydney to take on the Sixers on Sunday at the SCG who will welcome back Test star Steve Smith while Hobart will welcome into the squad Jake Weatherald and Beau Webster.
The clash with the Sixers could well decide if the Hurricanes will finish top of the table but it could come to the final game against Brisbane Heat on Wednesday night.
