Rugby league commentator Paul Kent has been diagnosed with throat cancer.
The former Fox Sports presenter and Daily Telegraph journalist received the diagnosis just before Christmas, Code Sports reports.
The report noted the cancer has formed on his lymph nodes around his neck with the 56-year-old to begin treatment next week.
He will reportedly undergo treatment for six to nine weeks.
“Plenty of people have got it worse than me and I’ll be okay,” Kent said to Code Sports.
“I’ve had lots of people reach out, I know the value of true friendship and I appreciate it.”
Kent made headlines in July 2024 when he parted ways with News Corp after video of him involved in a fight with another man outside a Sydney restaurant was made public.
The incident unfolded outside of Totti’s Rozelle in April, 2024 and saw the veteran NRL journalist push past several people before trading blows with Tamer Uzun on the public street, the fight ended when Kent was thrown into a tree.
Kent in July, 2024 failed in his bid to have a one charge of affray dealt with on mental health grounds before he pleaded guilty.
Kent did not have a conviction recorded against him and he was sentenced to a two-year good behaviour bond.
Mr. Uzun had one charge of affray dismissed in July last year stemming from now infamous-incident.
After departing News Corp, he launched his podcast Kenty Blitz where he continues to cover the game of rugby league.
