The Albanese government could face a revival of the politically contentious debate about carbon pricing in the electricity sector after an individual advocate asked the energy market rulemaker to formally consider introducing the controversial policy.
Kerry Burke, former energy analyst at Westpac and oil and gas giant Shell, filed the request with the Australian Energy Market Commission in December, proposing it create a rule to put a price on carbon in the National Electricity Market.
