The 65th Annual TV WEEK Logie Awards have officially kicked off with a performance by iconic Aussie performer Jimmy Barnes, but, unfortunately, not all viewers were impressed. The 69-year-old rock singer performed ‘Working Class Man’ at Aussie TV’s night of nights with host Sam Pang joking that the song meant nothing to the guests in attendance.

Jimmy recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the song, which also made it to number 56 of Triple J’s Hottest 100. He is set to tour the country later this year in celebration of the anniversary.

While many loved Barnsey’s performance of the song, with some calling him “brilliant,” others described him as “incoherent”.

One viewer wrote on X, “Leading with Barnsey means it will be downhill from here.”

“Not a single working-class man in that room,” another joked, referencing Sam’s joke.

“One for the boomers on the boomers’ medium,” a third wrote.

“How is it 2025 and we’re still relying on Jimmy Barnes for awards show entertainment?” someone else quipped.

“Could they not pick any other performers?” another questioned.

Others loved it, with one fan writing, “Jimmy Barnes voice is always going to be an A+.”

“Jimmy Barnes rocks the #Logies2025,” another agreed.

“Has to be one of the greatest @JimmyBarnes,” someone else wrote.

Jimmy Barnes’ health battles

Jimmy’s performance comes after a string of health battles over the past few years. The singer was rushed to the hospital in late 2023 with pneumonia, with doctors discovering a life-threatening infection that attacked his heart, requiring him to undergo open-heart surgery.

Jimmy was also hospitalised after experiencing “unbearable” hip pain last year, causing him to cancel several gigs.

However, the singer has made a full recovery and he told 7NEWS Chief Reporter Chris Reason that he was “looking forward to getting back on stage”.
