Stoke City are reported to be “advancing in talks” to sign full-back Cody Drameh on loan from play-off rivals Hull.
Stoke have been left without a recognised full-back due a surreal run of injuries over the last two or three weeks, with two left-backs and then even a stand-in left-back left in the treatment room while Junior Tchamadeu was stretchered out of the Africa Cup of Nations with a knee problem.
But Aaron Cresswell (calf) and Eric Bocat (knee), plus Ben Gibson (hamstring), are hoping to soon be available again and an update is expected this week on Tchamadeu, who is back at Clayton Wood for his rehabilitation.
There have been mixed reports from Hull about whether 24-year-old Drameh might be leaving this month.
He has had to compete with Hull captain Lewie Coyle at right-back and the club need to sell to stay on the right side of financial regulations – and Sky Sports now claim “Stoke are advancing in talks … an obligation to buy him is also being discussed as a possible inclusion in the deal.”
But boss Sergej Jakirovic had this week suggested the player would be staying put, telling HullLive: “We had a very nice conversation, like always, with Cody and me. This was a good conversation between me and Cody. He had some problems with lower back pain, and also after the Ipswich game, he felt a knee issue as well, and now he’s back normally with the group.
“I don’t know what changed, or even before, so everything was on him. I’m counting on you. Cody is a good player. He can help us, and he has already shown that he can play good, but he has had some injury issues.
“Everyone can go, but we must get an offer because they are under contract, and he has 18 months left on his contract. If someone wants to buy him, OK. We don’t have a problem with that because this is normal; it’s the market. Like we want some players, and we will see now, but he’s here, he’s happy, and this is most important for me.”
Drameh came through the ranks at Leeds and had positive reports on loans at Birmingham and Cardiff as well as winning promotion to the Premier League at Luton in 2023. He signed for Hull in 2024 on a three-year contract.
